WoW Forever is finally here! If you didn’t participate in the beta or stress tests, or if you did but didn’t quite get the hang of things, you might want to consider choosing Shaman as your first class when the game goes live.
As a classic class in WoW series, Shaman was often viewed as flashy but impractical in the original Vanilla version, with only occasional flashes of effectiveness in PvP combat.
However, WoW Forever brings significant buffs to Shaman this year, potentially making it one of the best classes for the leveling experience.
In this guide, IGGM will break down the enhancements made to Shaman in WoW Forever and explain the value they bring to your gameplay.

Key abilities
First, Windfury Weapon, a signature Shaman spell, remains a powerhouse in WoW Forever.
It imbues your melee weapon with a special power, giving each strike a 20% chance to trigger two additional attacks, while also granting a bonus of 104 melee attack power per hit. With a bit of luck, you could even land three critical hits in a single sequence.
If you’ve played other classes and are accustomed to standard movement speeds, you’ll find Shaman’s Ghost Wolf, which provides a 40% movement speed boost, to be a fantastic upgrade.
Furthermore, Improved Ghost Wolf talent has received a major change: it now makes the ability instant-cast, whereas previously it only reduced the 3-second cast time to 1 second.
While a one-second reduction might sound minor, it makes a world of difference in practice. In WoW Forever, you can now shift into Ghost Wolf immediately after taking down an enemy, perfect for chasing down your next target.
Even better, Ghost Wolf can now be used indoors. This opens up new tactical advantages in certain environments and can even help you make WoW Forever gold you need during the early game, whether you’re in raids or dungeons.
Totem system optimizations
The totem system has always been a defining mechanic for Shaman class. In short, totems are utility objects placed on the ground that provide various buffs to you and your allies, ranging from offensive boosts and defensive bonuses to healing and recovery effects.
While WoW Classic Plus doesn’t feature a complete overhaul of the totem system, it does introduce significant enhancements.
For starters, the duration of many totems, and the buffs they provide, has been extended from roughly 2 minutes to 5 minutes. Furthermore, restrictions that previously prevented certain totem effects from stacking have been removed.
WoW Forever also allows totem buffs to be shared across the entire raid. This means that in larger raid groups, you no longer need to assign a Shaman to every individual sub-group.
However, this also means you’ll need to prove yourself more competitive than other Shamans when seeking a spot in a group.
To stand out, you can WoW Forever gold buy to upgrade your gear and stock up on consumables, demonstrating that you are a reliable teammate.
Use Call of the Elements with caution
Call of the Elements is one of several new abilities added to WoW Forever Shaman totem system, forming part of a revamped approach to deploying totems.
Previously, Shamans had to place each of their four totems individually. Now, you can select one totem for each of the four elements and use the new Call of the Elements ability to summon all four at once.
You can configure up to three preset totems. Activating the ability requires a 3-second channel; once the channel completes, your pre-selected totems are summoned.
In IGGM’s view, this offers little practical benefit: while it used to take 6 seconds to place four totems, and 4 seconds to do so manually now, Call of the Elements still requires a 3-second channel.
Unless you are playing as a Restoration Shaman, Call of the Elements is generally not worth using. For Enhancement Shamans, manual placement is superior, as using Call of the Elements will interrupt your auto-attacks.

Buffs to Fire Nova
The changes to WoW Forever Shaman totem system have also improved Fire Nova, a key spell in Shaman’s toolkit.
Previously, casting Fire Nova required having a totem already placed, a totem that was easily destroyed, leading to a frustrating gameplay experience. Now, Fire Nova is tied to your currently active Fire Totem; it has a cooldown of only 10 seconds and deals significant damage.
Although the ability was nerfed during WoW Forever beta, reducing its damage by nearly half, this new totem enhancement still makes Fire Nova an excellent AoE skill.
Comprehensive utility
An optimized Shaman not only provides immense combat power early on in WoW Forever but also boasts high sustainability, ensuring strong uptime during encounters.
Furthermore, you have the flexibility to choose Enhancement specialization for melee DPS, Elemental specialization for spell-based DPS, or even experiment with a hybrid talent build.
As for Restoration Shamans, while their primary focus is healing, they also offer valuable utility in group settings, not only by saving teammates but also by keeping themselves alive during critical moments.
Additionally, at lower levels, an Enhancement Shaman can even fill the role of a tank. This means that if your group is clearing raids and unable to find a dedicated tank, a Shaman can step in temporarily, ensuring that your progress, and your WoW Forever gold-making efforts, remain on track.
It is this exceptional versatility that grants Shamans strong independent survivability and allows them to integrate seamlessly into almost any group.
Conclusion
As IGGM points out, Shaman demonstrates unprecedented utility in WoW Forever. If you don’t have a specific preference and want to fit easily into various groups, this class is an ideal choice.
That said, this doesn’t necessarily mean Shaman is the absolute strongest class in Forever; as you progress further into the game, you can always explore other options!
